Now that we know who's knitting for which team, it's time to unveil our first TDFKAL2008 challenge - let's call it the TEAM TIME TRIAL!
It's time to do a bit of research into your own team, find out what those acronyms stand for, who the sponsors are, and what colour jersey the riders will be wearing in the Tour. Then, take whatever tidbits of information you like about your team and give them a knitterly spin - come up with a knitter's translation of your team name, and/or invent a yarn-y version of your team's jersey to be a team button your teammates can post on their blogs or use as their Ravatars. Work together with your teammates by chatting with them on Ravelry, contacting them via their blogs or by emailing your team leader.
Any and all entries will be accepted, and there is no limit to the number of entries per team. Each idea your team comes up with will be counted as a separate entry. (That is, a new team name would be one entry and a new team jersey would be a separate entry.) The winner will be chosen by the co-hostesses and two prizes (containing what else but yarn-y goodness) will be awarded to two randomly-drawn members of the winning team!
Entries may be made by anyone, in the following ways:
- by commenting on this post with your entry
- by emailing either of the co-hostesses with your entry:
Meg: daysfull AT iprimus DOT com DOT au
Debby: scarlett22770 AT yahoo DOT com
- By posting your entry on your blog, AND either commenting here or emailing the co-hostesses (so we know where to find your entry)

WhooHooo! Go team AG2R - LA MONDIALE!
As a slogan from our sponsors, may I suggest, "SABLE - you're retirement is safe in our hands." or "We'll help you plan for retirement, so you can focus on your knitting."
I also like, "Blessed are the young, for they will inherit the SABLE".
(if any one can translate into French, it would be perfect)
(and for anyone who doesn't understand, our team sponsors are financial planning and retirement corporations)
This is fun already! Go Team CSC!!!
Team CSC-Saxo Bank is sponsored by CSC (Computer Sciences Corporation) and Saxo Bank (a Danish investment bank). The team is based in Denmark and about a third of the riders are Danish. So I decided our team name should stand for something in Danish. So CSC now stands for:
Charmerere Strikkerer til Cykelløbet
which is Danish for:
Charming Knitters at the Bicycle Race
which, of course, we are!!!!
woo - go team CSC.
Rabobank's motto: "As large as is necessary; as small as possible." Applied to garment fit and total number of stitches to accomplish, that's exactly the way I intend to get a cardigan finished during the KAL!
Team CSC has been busy - they also came up with this:
Cycling Stick Chicks!!
(I won't take credit...there has been a lot of brainstorming at CSC headquarters)
I have just been informed that the correct verbiage and spelling in Danish is:
Charmerende Strikkere til Cykelløbet
CSC - "Charming Knitters at the Bicycle Race"
Go Team CSC--we have four national champions on the Tour start list so we should do well!!!
Team Garmin-Chipotle: Knit Clean.
or a twist on our former name (Slipstream-Chipotle):
Team Slip Stitch - Chipotle
following up on Steph's comment:
Allez AG2R - La Mondiale!:
Heureux les jeunes, car ils hériteront la SABLE.
(I think SABLE would lose too much in translation....)
"Heureux les jeunes, car ils hériteront la SABLE."
So what does that mean in English? Just curious :-)
Another suggestion for Team Garmin Chipotle, powered by H3O. We could become
Team Garment Crafters,
powered by H2O
because we Knit Clean.
On behalf of Team Quick.Step, I submit three blog buttons that were created to emulate Quick.Step's logo, as well as some play-on-words regarding their name and our knittery habit.
The blog buttons can be viewed on my blog at:
http://lettucepieces.com/unravelme/?p=361
@CathyAnnHenry
SABLE = Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy
:-)
I've just designed a button for my team. Very much an amateur effort as I ended up doing it in word!
The design is on my blog.

OK, now I know what SABLE means. What about the rest of it that's in French? My Danish is sketchy, and my French is even worse!
Team Liquigas is sponsored by Liquigas ( who else )a provider of liquified gas products in Italy. Hmmmmm!
Perhaps we're High Energy Knitters! Or maybe we should change our name to Team Liquigrape ;-)
another for Team Quick Stitch (nee Team Quick Step) wrist warmers can be found here.

@cathyannhenry
the rest of the phrase in French translates as "Blessed (or happy) are the young, for they will inherit the SABLE". See Steph's original comment on this post.
Thanks for the translations. I'm a little slow sometimes...
Team Liquigas has gone all Italian - and come up with "Esplosivo" :-)
A button is under development!
We did muse on Team Liquigas - Explosive Knitting, which roughly translated to Italian is "Lavoro a maglia esplosivo di Liquigas della squadra” !! but Esplosiva seems suitably Latin and less of a mouthful ;-)
Team High Road: Knitters with Dangerous Curves
And in honor of our steroid-free pledge:
Team High Road: Mean & Clean
Based on the French knitting abbreviation rab., for rabattre, "bind off," I offer the following for Rabobank (especially appropriate for the green jersey contenders):
Team Rab.: Knitters Banking on Binding Off.
In reply to Sarah/Blue Garter
Very clever, I think!
As part of Team High Road/Columbia, I'd like to suggest Team Columbia: Knitting Clean For the Win!
In a desperate attempt at an entry for Team Lampre, whose sponsors include a salami company-
Team Lampre: You never sausage speedy knitters!
Lindt Chocolates is another sponsor. Maybe,
"Lampre Knitters sprint for Lindt!"
I have a mascot for Team Rabobank - I give you Ribby Band Man!!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3131/2638939672_3080f1af92.jpg
Since we are no longer High Road, switching gears:
Team Columbia: By George, I think We've Got It!
(in honor of our incomparable captain, George Hincapie)
Team Liquigas has a button - it's all "Esplosivo" but I am off to work on a night shift now and hoping it will appear before midnight.
