Les Prix

Did somebody say prizes???

Well it wouldn't be a bloggy Knit Along without some little yarny incentives now would it? Here's how it works.

We will have random prize drawings on each of the two rest days during the Tour, and a final drawing at the finish. Participants in the KAL can earn points for particpating in the Tour by posting about or mentioning the KAL on your blog, and by leaving comments on the TdF blog. Each point earns you a place in the draw for that week. So if you post 5 times and comment 5 times, you will have 10 entries in that week's draw.

We'll clean the slate after each draw and start tallying points again immediately. Entries for each draw will close at midday, French time, on each rest day. Entries for the final draw will close at midday, French time, on the 30th of July (the day AFTER the tour finishes). We haven't chosen the prizes yet, but rest assured it will be something drool-worthy!

The first rest day is at Tignes on July 17th (following Stage 8) and the second rest day is at Pau on July 25th (following Stage 15). And guess what? We have already started tallying points! As they say, l'oiseau tôt obtient le ver.*

The excitement is really growing at my house about le Tour. The ad campaign for the local television coverage has already started. Here's an entertaining snippet featuring one of Australia's best known cyclists, Robbie McEwan (a sprinter)!

Have you found out about local tv coverage of the Tour where you live? Here are the details we're aware of so far - if you can add anything, please let us know in the comments!

In Australia: As seen above, SBS will show every stage live (overnight), with daily 30-minute wrap-ups at 7:20am and 6:00pm.

In the U.S.: Versus cable channel. Check their TDF info to find your local channel number. For those without Versus on the TV, you can follow live coverage on their website, or at VeloNews.com.

In the U.K.: Rumours abound that ITV and Eurosport have the rights to broadcast the Tour but I've seen no confirmation as to scheduling yet.

In the week leading up to the tour, we'll provide you with some more updates on the KAL participants and what exciting projects you've chosen, as well as some tidbits on France and all things French (or vaguely construed as French) to whet your appetites for the month ahead! If you don't see your name in the sidebar yet, it's probably because we think you are still undecided. Let us know which category you'll be knitting in and we'll add your name to the correct group!

Until next time, a bientôt!

* Have a go at a translation in the comments!

This all sounds exciting! I have chosen a yellow jersey, so please list me on the site when you get a chance. I'm looking forward to sharing my project with you all soon! I bought my yarn on Saturday when I met up with Debby and other bloggers at a local yarn store.

The early bird gets the worm? (thank you Babelfish!) Or better yet, the fast knitter gets the jersey?

"See you soon?"

I'm planning to knit a scarf with Anny Blatt Victoria (in the etain colorway) and Kidsilk Haze, but I'll have to skip the race start in London. On that day I'll be camping in Alaska, and Kidsilk Haze and camping don't mix!

i suck at being tôt, so my chances lie in being tard enough to catch the worm before the early people get up ...

I can't believe I remembered enough high school french to translate "the early bird gets the worm." Thank you for the challenge!

Umm.

l'ioseau = losers
tot = add up
obtient = the opposite of acute
le ver = wearing green.

Therefore:

Wearing green will not make you gain enough points to win.

I didn't do any French in school at all. Can you tell?

I like knitabulous' translation best! hahaha!!

I took french and didn't entirely understand that phrase (again, good thing for babelfish, right?)

I'm with all of you keeping track online (no cable, we're too cheap.)!

That is such a fun ad! I love the phone booth. So cute. I almost don't recognize him not in green. :)

Here's one of my favorite pics of McEwan (I used to have this and another good one of him on my desktop): http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1020/652827191_74eddb0c03.jpg He is good at using his head! :) I had another great one of him stepping out from his massage, his legs look AMAZING! I can't find it, though. :( Sorry - he's fun to watch in action. :)

Hey Saphire - thanks for mentioning it on the knittyboard (although I think I saw it on the Hanne KAL). I got assigned a yellow jersey - would have preferred purple, but that wasn't an option ...
